MEC VICTORIA
The Victoria location Mountain Equipment COOP was completed in 2004. As with all busy construction sites, this floor had it’s challenges. The concrete was a suspended slab that was ultimately too thin, there were multiple cracks radiating from all the old fir beams. The floor was approximately 30,000 sq/ft and had to be finished in two halves to meet the construction schedule. Because Stone Design finished all the condo’s in the upstairs of the building, we knew a lot about the shape of the concrete going in. This helped the team choose the correct diamonds that matched the hardness of the concrete, therefore streamlining the process. Stone Design prepared a small sample with a sage acid stain colour for MEC, which was approved and can be seen in the finished product. This project is a perfect example of a floor that is maintained properly and looks as good as the day it was finished. As with all Mountain Equipment COOP projects, sustainability is at the forefront, this is why polished concrete is specified.
