Polished concrete is a diverse, durable, and beautiful flooring that can be installed over any substrate at any stage of a project. It can be poured as a thick slab on grade mass, or as a thin section overlay. It is a medium that takes time to understand and experience to coerce in the way that you want it to behave. It is both a craft and chemical reaction, thus it requires both artistry and analysis to come together as a thing of beauty.
Benefits of Polished Concrete Flooring
Polishing concrete requires the use of heavy-duty machines with diamond impregnated disks. Depending on substrate condition and desired aesthetic, there can be up to 11 different grinding/polishing passes, with different applications of dyes and sealers in between each stage.
Concrete can be integrally or topically coloured absolutely any colour. It can be matte or shiny or everything in between. There are not many materials that are as design diverse.
Decorative cuts can be routered into any concrete floor. Currently, the trends are towards minimalist open floor plans with restrained patterning, although borders, or grid patterns can be helpful when a floor has bad staining, many patches or undesirable areas.
