Transforming a Vancouver Penthouse with a Custom White Terrazzo Floor

In the heart of Vancouver, luxury meets artistry in one of our most recent projects: a stunning white terrazzo floor that elevates a penthouse to new heights of sophistication. This project combined timeless materials with modern design, creating a space that is both functional and breathtaking. The space and the incredible view is shared by all the occupants in the building.

Terrazzo for the 37th floor during a heat wave
Completing a terrazzo floor in a penthouse during Vancouver’s summer came with its share of challenges. Transporting tens of thousands of pounds of aggregate, cement, and tools to the top floor demanded meticulous planning and coordination. With temperatures soaring to 37°C during much of the work window, we faced fast-setting materials and intense, sweaty labor.

The floor design featured curved divisions that mirrored the radius of the vaulted ceiling. Over the course of a week, our team poured approximately 2,000 square feet of white terrazzo. Each day, we rough-cut the previous day’s pour and progressed forward, while meticulously laying out the mixes for the current day.
polishing / filling voids
Once all the panels were poured and the floor was rough-ground, the polishing process began. At the 50-grit resin stage, the terrazzo received a slurry coat to fill any voids. The high polymer content in the patching material ensured a strong bond, resulting in a durable and seamless finish

specialized sealers for each flooring use
The Vancouver penthouse featured two distinct terrazzo flooring areas: the elevator lobby and hallways, and the tiki bar area. Since the bar area serves as an entertaining space where food and drinks are likely to be spilled, a more resilient sealer was essential. Victoria Stone Design opted for a Urethane topical sealer for the bar area to provide enhanced protection, while the rest of the floor was finished with a standard polished treatment for a sleek and elegant look.
