The clients for this project saw an image on our Instagram account and thought their entrance would look good with a custom terrazzo treatment. They wanted to include the family crest and picked a font in which to start the design. The house is primarily brick with precast sills and caps. Stone Design brought a sample with a grey base that matched the sills and an Italian Red Verona stone that matched the brick quite well. Black concrete was utilized in the center square to tie in the door and trim colour. As this was an exterior installation, the terrazzo needed to slope away from the house to ensure drainage.

Stone Design ground the existing concrete slab to ensure a proper bond and removed built the formwork to contain the terrazzo pour. The concrete slab was substandard, but the decision was made to keep the slab but re-enforce it with carbon fiber.

Zinc divider strips were used to separate the grey base from the black inner square which contained the family crest. The grey concrete was chosen to match the sills on the house and the authentic Italian red verona perfectly matched the brick.
