Polished concrete overlay for Whistler bakery.
Victoria Stone Design installed a polished concrete overlay for Ed's Bread in Creekside Village, Whistler, BC. The combination of polished concrete with a high end sealer provides a super abrasion resistant, stain resistant floor . Ski resorts are known to be hard on flooring materials. They are high traffic, utilize snow removal and de icing salts, and are generally muddy overall. Stone Design is proud to provide a durable floor that will hold up well and looks amazing in this beautiful bakery.
Before - rough, soft concrete slab - not polishable.
floor prep done, ready for self leveling
This space in Creekside, Whistler had a rough slab that was not suitable for polishing as it was way too soft and had extensive trenching in the floor. Stone Design recommended Rapid Set Tru self leveling to re surface the floor. As with all overlays, extensive floor prep is the key to a good bond and even appearance in the finished product. After the trenches were back poured, Stone Design ground surface to remove all adhesives, paint and bond breaks. Small patches were filled, and a two part epoxy was applied and broadcast with coarse sand. The next stage was the pouring of the new concrete layer. Stone Design utilizes two hippo mixers to ensure the quick flow of material and safeguards in case one mixer has a problem. The next day the grinding and polishing began. The end product provides an extremely durable, stain resistant surface that holds up to harsh conditions that ski hills are known for (de icing materials, ski boots etc).

We absolutely love the backdrop of the finished baked goods with the polished concrete overlay as the backdrop. Ed is a true artist and it is a total compliment that he showcases his finished baked goods on our concrete overlay.
