1. LIGHT REFLECTION
Polished concrete floors reflect up to 100% more light compared with unfinished concrete floors. This provides improved energy efficiency and aesthetics.
2. LESS DUST
Densifying a concrete floor eliminates 99% of the dust typically associated with unfinished concrete floors.
3. HARDER SURFACES
Unfinished concrete has a soft, pitted surface. Left untreated, the porous surface stains and erodes causing unsightly tracks and divots in a previously flat floor. A polished concrete floor is the result of a densifying process that alters the composition of the concrete, making the surface progressively harder over time. This densifier penetrates several inches into the concrete, filling microscopic holes and adding substantiality to the concrete.
Polished concrete is chameleon in nature. It can be made to resemble leather, granite or terrazzo. It is a blank canvas that can be treated with cut lines, insets, logos and almost any imagery.
5. PRICE POINT
The low maintenance and upkeep result in tremendous cost savings compared to other floor finishes. Lighting needs may also be reduced as a result of the the high reflectivity.
6. SUSTAINABLE DESIGN
One measure of the environmental burden of a building material is its embedded energy. Meaning the amount of energy (sometimes measured in CO2 emissions) that is required to produce a product. Although concrete has a medium to high embedded energy, it has a lifespan of 1000′s of years, making it an environmentally friendly and sustainable product. Ancient Roman concrete buildings are still standing today!
Concrete is fully recyclable. It can be crushed and reused in the making of new concrete slabs. Concrete is non-toxic. It doesn’t off-gas VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) like other common building materials such as carpets, paint, some insulation materials, MDF and chipboard. Nor does concrete need toxins to protect it from insect infestation such as CCA (Copper, Chrome and Arsenic) found in many wood products.
7. HEALTHIER LIVING ENVIRONMENT
Polished concrete floors are a great way to reduce allergens such as dust mites and environmental toxins carried in on the soles of shoes that accumulate on softer surfaces such as carpet, wood, or linoleum.
